Become More Positive with These Tips

We may not always get to choose what goes on around us, but we do have the choice on how we are going to view it. Life expands and contracts in proportion to our mind, so cultivating positivity within is a wonderful investment of your time. Here are five tips that will help you to grow your positivity:

Express Gratitude

One of the easiest ways to increase your positivity is to express gratitude. Being thankful for what you currently have immediately moves you from lack to appreciation. Gratitude instantly puts you in touch with what is wonderful in your life and it is far easier to be positive when you notice all the good.

Be a Giver

Giving draws focus away from yourself onto others, current research suggests that giving makes us happy, healthier and build a ripple effect of giving within our community. It is easy to do and fun to experience.

Find Your Breath

When we’re stressed or negative we hold onto tension in the body, most commonly around the solar plexus and the throat, two major respiratory centres of the body. It is also common to hold onto the breath. When we breathe deeply, we circulate air throughout the body, removing any stale air and blockages of tension. Breathing deeply when you’re feeling tension is the equivalent of opening up a window to let fresh air into a stale room.  Breathe deeply and consciously.

Visualize Success

Imagination is the key adaptation that allowed humans to visualise something happening before bringing it into reality. Without imagination we wouldn’t have architecture, science or modern technology. In recent times studies have revealed that imagining something happening in real life activated the same parts of the brain that are switched on when it’s actually happening. Thus visualising is a powerful way to cultivate what you truly desire and getting what you want is generally a good feeling that builds positivity.

Incorporate a Simple Meditation Practice Into Your Day

In our busy and overstimulating world, the need for silence and space is more important than ever. Studies are proving old eastern tradition of meditation to be one of the most effective ways to cultivate positivity that we have. If the idea of sitting still even for ten minutes seems impossible; yoga is a wonderful gateway into meditation, because there is movement involved. Meditation doesn’t have to mean sitting cross legged with your eyes closed – it can mean taking some time to draw, laying in your bed without distractions for five minutes before you start your morning routine or walking along a beach, engaging all five senses to the experience.
